Winter is here and thoughts turn to keep ourselves warm and safe.

But what about buildings and businesses?

In 2018, Storm Deirdre brought freezing rain, snow and ice to parts of the country. Roads were closed and people carefully headed outdoors.

But while we reached for the hats and scarves in a bid to keep warm during the cold snap, buildings and premises were left to fend for themselves.

The same year the Beast from the East prompted record pay-outs from insurers as they dealt with burst pipes and loss of trade.

In the first quarter of the year, £1.25 billion was paid by insurers under domestic and commercial property insurance policies – the highest quarterly figure for two years, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

On commercial insurance, ABI say weather damage and escape of water claims also rose, up to £188 million, compared to £107 million in the previous quarter.

It demonstrates a very good point as the colder weather takes a grip this year – make sure you have adequate business insurance to cover these winter hazards.

Businesses and buildings are just as vulnerable as people are when the cold weather bites. While we’re very good at looking after ourselves, buildings are left over Christmas and New Year.

At Gravity Risk Services Ltd we can make sure your business is adequately covered against burst pipes and other winter weather related problems. Just get in touch with one of our award-winning staff to find out how we could help you.
